Mathematical formula and logic
Total Area = Walls Area + (Include Ceiling ? Length × Width : 0) - Openings (approx 10%). Sheets = ceil(Total Area / Sheet Area).
Worked example
For a 16 × 12 ft room with 8 ft ceilings (448 sq ft walls + 192 sq ft ceiling = 640 sq ft total): Using 4x8 sheets (32 sq ft/sheet) requires 20 drywall sheets, approx 10 gallons of joint compound, and 640 drywall screws.
