Mathematical formula and logic
Calories Burned = MET × Body Weight in kg × (Duration in Minutes / 60). (Note: Weight in kg = lbs / 2.20462).
Worked example
A 160 lb (72.57 kg) swimmer doing moderate freestyle (MET 7.0) for 45 minutes burns: 7.0 × 72.57 × (45 / 60) = 381.0 kcal (approx 508 kcal/hour).
